We all remember where we were and exactly what we were doing during significant points in history. September 11th I was a senior in high school and we were marching around campus singing songs in Spanish to practice our verb tenses. February 12th, 2012 I was driving my 3 year old to her soccer game.
It was raining and I was carefully navigating traffic through the narrow historic streets, when a call from my best friend's husband appeared on my phone.
You know what's coming next, right?
My stomach fell into my feet somehow. Instantly my hands were covered in sweat. I lost my focus, my ability to comprehend, my perfect life I thought was mine...
I parked at the YMCA, shaking and unable to shed a tear. My babies were in the car. I rangled my infant and 3 year old out of the car and set off to coach a bunch of wild 3 year olds playing soccer in the rain. I can't tell you one detail about that game, but I know that I was a fragile shell of a woman, standing there, in the rain, willing myself not to vomit right there on the field.
That's where I was when my life and the lives of my family were forever changed.
